Embarking on a new pool in Austin, TX

The slope actually didn't come out quite as we'd planned. Here is the elevation we had settled on with the builder:

Note that the first 3 feet of the shallow end is meant to be flat, followed by 10 feet at a 10:1 slope, followed by progressively steeper slopes. Unfortunately the concrete crew poured us with about an 8:1 slope over everything until those last ~5-6 feet before the deepest section where it's a slightly steeper drop. The builder is coming out tomorrow to figure out what happened, because the concrete crew definitely didn't follow the plans we gave them and they'll need to correct it.

As far as the question of whether the slope is too much, from walking in the empty pool I'd say this 8:1 slope is right on the edge of being too steep to comfortably hang out in. Especially because there's no flat section at the start. I think 10:1 would be a more comfortable slope, but if you wanted to combine that with a deep end you'd either need a very long pool or a transition to a steeper slope at some point as we intended to do here.

Wow. You even had a good plan and it wasn’t followed. We didn’t spell it out other than min and max depth. I think I wanted too much out of a small pool. Not sure if I would have been more happy with a shallower/ flatter pool.

After doing some more precise measurements, most of the pool is actually pretty close to what we had asked for. The main stretch in the shallow end is just slightly steeper than we wanted, but it’s close enough. The main issue is that first 3 feet being somewhat steeply sloped rather than flat. The concrete company is going to rework that part since they didn’t follow the plan.

Tile thinset started going in today, they’ll begin laying some tile in the morning! Pictures to come.
