Ecofinish problems

Our ecofinish was applied last week. It is coming off in some areas where we had cracks in the shotcrete. Our pool contractor says 'it is no big deal and can be fixed easily'. It also looks like a wrinkled up pool liner in some areas. Has anyone else had this trouble and lived to see their pool operate just fine? We are 8 months into this project and every step forward results in 2 steps back. All I get is "we will take care of it". But then they do not show up for days or weeks at a time.

Additionally, the contractor tells me the water can sit in the pool for up to 30 days before he needs to install the equipment. That seems extremely disgusting to me. Is there any truth to this?

I had called the ecofinish company at one time to ensure this contractor was trained by them and they assured me they had confidence in the company to do this correctly.

I tried to upload pictures but apparently my nerves are shot because I cannot figure it out.

I hate to say it but you are going to have problems with it most likely. if its wrinkled up in places its not adhered and the same where its peeling. theres a chance they didnt prep right or well enough and they will fix it so its good now and down the road sooner than later its gonna fail again. I would take LOTS of pictures and reach out to ecofinish directly they may send a rep out. If theres another guy who does it near you call and have them come out for estimate and see what he says thats usually the real truth from a competitor. thats an awful situation to be in. Yes the water can sit in pool for however long it will need to be slammed to get it cleared up, the sooner the better with the equipment tho but swamp water can be made clear in a week to two weeks no problem

Are you saying the Aquabright was applied directly to the gunite, without a plaster layer between them? I thought there had to be a plaster layer beneath the Aquabright to create a smooth surface, as the Aquabright layer itself isn't thick enough to smooth out the roughness of the gunite.

mappo --- There was a layer of plaster put in between. We had about 4 guys on 5 or more days, over the course of 2 months, working on it and nobody applied it the same. I think the plaster layer is where the wrinkled look is coming from.

I think the plaster layer is where the wrinkled look is coming from.

That makes sense. The Aquabright layer is so thin, it shouldn't be possible for it to be the source of surface imperfections on its own. It just reflects the imperfections beneath it. That's the difficulty of doing a renovation with Aquabright - getting the old plaster beneath it in shape. But on a new build that plaster layer should be perfect. If it isn't, they should have addressed it before doing the AB. And it isn't going to get fixed by re-doing the AB. It'll have to be removed and the underlying plaster corrected before redoing the AB.
