I have a client with an IC 40 and I believe the low voltage fuse is bad. Is it as simple as replacing and how do I remove it? There's a small panel over it, does it pop out and swap or will I need to get behind it and remove the wire to it? Seems there's a 'clip' with a body it.

Nathan,

When the IC40 is powered by a separate Power Center, the power center has a fuse..

It sounds to me like you are talking about the Circuit breaker that is part of an EasyTouch or IntelliCenter..

If so, I really doubt the breaker is bad.. More than likely the Surge card is bad or the cell itself is bad.

Unplug the cell from the Automation panel and see if the breaker still pops. If it does, most likely the surge card is bad..

If the breaker only pops when the IC40 is connected to the automation, then my bet would be a bad IC40..

Popping the breaker is a very typical failure mode for the IC40..

How old is the cell?

Why do you think the breaker is bad?

What else can you tell us??

Thanks,

Jim R.

There's a small bank of low voltage breakers/fuses under the top plate of the easytouch panel. The chlorinator one is popped out and will sound like it's completing a circuit when depressed. 12 amp. There's no power to the IC 40. I can't attach a pic for some reason.

Nathan,

Disconnect the IC40, and open the panel and reset the breaker...

If it stays set, test the two red input wires to the surge card.. Should be about 24 Volts AC.

If you have good AC power to the surge card, then breaker is ok. Then, test the DC output of the surge card.. It should be about 30 to 40 volts DC.. (We have seen them lower than 30 volts and the IC40 still works..) If you have about 30 volts DC, and when you plug in the cell the breaker pops, then the cell is bad.

How old is the cell? Has the cell light been flashing recently?

Could it be a bad breaker, sure it could, but you should be testing and not guessing...

Thanks,

Jim R.
