Easy Touch PSL4 Scheduling Issues

Hi All:

This is my first post here... seems like there are some very knowledgeable people here :)

I've just had an Easy Touch PSL4 automation system installed (along with a Pentair VS Pump), I am trying to set 3 schedules so that the pump will run at 3 different speeds during the day. Unfortunately, I cannot get this to work!

Reading this forum, I have reset the Easytouch system and still no joy. This is what I have:

I tried to simplify my schedule so that there would only be ONE high speed cycle:

If I remember correctly, this will work if I set the schedules so that there is no overlap - so for example:

Pool: 7AM - 8AM
High Speed: 8AM - 9AM
etc...

BUT - I need to point out that I have SOLAR Heating - and the SOLAR system will ONLY kick in if the POOL schedule is active.

A local Pentair Installer told me that the POOL must be active for the entire duration of the day - AND - it must be programmed to run at the lowest speed.

I have called Pentair three times in the last week - one call lasted 2 hours and 35 minutes and the guys there are not impressing me!!!

Hope someone here can help me to resolve this.

Thanks,

Ray.

Ray,

Please tell me what does not work...

In the schedule that you posted, your pump should run at 1700 RPM from 8 am until 8:05, when it should increase speed to 2900, then at 9 am, the pump should return to 1700 RPM...

Does this not work??

You have the lite version of the EasyTouch and you can only have 4 programs/schedules.. That includes any egg-timer that is not set at the default of 12 hours. I am not sure how many pump speeds you are allowed.. Unfortunately, ScreenLogic will allow you to enter a billion schedules, but the EasyTouch can't use them.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Hi Jim:

Thanks for your reply (and thanks for the direct message!!).

So my simple setup - the pump will come on at 08:00 at 1700 RPM - but it will not execute any further schedules (so it does not increase to 2900 RPM at 8:05).

I do have the following egg timers:

1592158128161.png

I did see reference to the egg timers in previous posts - and hence I set 4 of them to "Don't Stop" in an attempt for them not to be included in the count. I definitely want the Spa and Pool light on a timer (this is my vacation rental). I have an IS-4 touch button remote and I want to protect against folks from turning the spa on or lights on and then going to bed! - the other timers, I don't care about.

Thank you for your help!

Ray.

Ray,

Show me a pic of the front panel of your system... I want to make sure you have a "lite" version... if you do, you can only have a total of 4 schedules/programs/egg-timers... and run-once items..

I suggest for now, that you set all your egg timers to the default of 12 hours.. Then see if you can set up schedules for 4 speeds.. If that works, then you are going to have to decide what is important to have..

The pump will run the fastest of any commands it is given.. So, in the pool mode the system will run at 1700 RPM.. If solar comes on, the pump will run at 2250.. But, if you are in High Speed of 2900, and solar comes on, the pump will NOT slow down.

How did you end up the the "lite" version of the EasyTouch??

Thanks.

Jim R.

Hi Jim:

Here's a pic of the front panel:

Easytouch PSL4-Front-Panel.JPG

I was not even aware (made aware) that there was a LITE version of the PSL4 - and its limitations!

I have called Pentair Tech Support 3x and none of their guys have picked up on this - which does not surprise me!

I will set the egg timers to 12 hours and see if the schedules work!

Thanks,

Ray.

Ray,

I don't see why right at the moment.. ☹

I suggest that you set up a new schedule that is more then a couple of minutes away and then push the reset button on the main panel. This will not erases anything.. It is just like rebooting your computer.. Then see what happens.

Check the EasyTouch clock and make sure it is close to the actual time.

I'll keep thinking about it..

Thanks... I have not manually changed / switched anything.

I am up in Canada and my Easytouch is in FL... a little difficult for me to press the reset button. Another surprise that PentAir does not provide a remote reset function!

Yes, the clock is off a couple of minutes - but I waited and no joy!

I can try to erase all schedules and define them again.

Ray.

Ray,

Rats!! That makes it a little harder...

If this were my system I would do just that.. Just erase the two schedules you do have, and see if the pump shuts off...

Then set a new schedule for just the Pool Circuit and see if the pump starts on time and shuts off on time.

Have you been watching this screen to see if the Circuit turns green when on and gray when off???

Thanks,

Jim R.

OK, deleted the schedules - created 1 new schedule - for the pool to run (8AM - 6PM) - that works:

Step 2 - add a new schedule High Speed:

HOLY MOLY!!!!

So ....... what am I to conclude from this?

I can't have egg timers and variable speed profiles - or what's the limit?

Thank you Jim.

If only those clever people at Pentair Tech Support told me this... I've been trying to solve this for a week!! - and probably spent at least 5 hours on the phone with three of their Tech Support guys... I hung up on the last guy!

Ray,

Let's see if they go off as scheduled and start back up tomorrow.

I would look at it tomorrow and make sure it comes back on..

Then I would add one egg-timer.. Just so we are on the same page... Egg-timers are for things that are not usually scheduled.. They are for things that you manually turn on and want to automatically turn off.. For me this is a Fill Line.. I never know when I will need to add water, but when I do, I just push the Fill Line Icon on ScreenLogic and it opens a valve to dump water in the pool.. If left up to me I'd forget to turn if off most of the time.. I have an egg timer set for 1 hour for the Fill Line circuit that shuts it off for me.

I am not that familiar with the lite EasyTouch, but I believe that you can pump speeds, that don't count as schedules.. As an example.. Spa.. You would not normally schedule the spa.. When you decide you want to use the spa, you just put the EasyTouch in the Spa mode, based upon the pump speed set-up page, the pump should ramp us to 2650.. (Is that fast enough for your spa??) You could also assign speeds to an Aux relays.. So, someone on site could push Aux 2 and if you had say 3000 RPM assigned to Aux 2 the pump would run at 3000 RPM. The downside is that it would run at 3K until someone turned it off or it hit the 12 hour default egg-timer.

You will need to decide how many schedules you must have and that will tell you how many egg-timers that you can have .. A total of 4 items..

Remember the default egg-timers do not count against the total..

Thanks,

Jim R.

Hi Jim:

OK, so let's see what happens tomorrow.... here is the setup for testing:

1592183593579.png

1592183643277.png

So with zero egg timers, I am "expecting" these 3 schedules to work tomorrow morning. I will let you know!

I do want 2 egg timers to work - for the reasons that I mentioned previously - there are for the IS-4 touch button remote so someone can't leave the spa nor the lights on all night. I'd only want those egg timers to be active when we have a guest staying at the house. Now that I know that there is a limit of 4 "schedules" (and the egg timers are going to take up 2 of the schedules), I can work around this and just use 2 schedules for the speed profiles.

I'll be in-touch tomorrow to let you know how things work out.

Thanks!

Ray.

Hi Jim:

Looking good this morning:

At 08:49:

1592225376614.png

Just after 9AM:

At 9:06:

1592226395294.png

Bingo.... so tonight, I will do another test - reactivate the 2 egg timers (leave all others at 12 hours), this should allow me 2 pump schedules. I'll program 2 pump (speed) schedules and confirm whether that works.

Thank you so much!!

Ray.

Thanks, Jim:

2:03PM - and the Medium speed schedule has finished and the pump is now running at the lower (1700 RPM).

I am wondering now whether moving the spa and the pool lights from the OLD Mechanical Egg timers to the IS-4 and using the Screen Logic egg timers was the right thing to do (now that I know that the egg timers use up 2 of the permissible 4 schedules!).

Do you know if there is a firmware update that I can explore to allow me to increase the # of schedules from 4 to 8? - I dare not call Pentair Tech Support with that question!!

Thanks!

Ray.

Hi Jim:

Not sure who Tom / Ogdento is... but when I was considering buying this system, I contemplated buying SL later - I asked the Pentair guys if the firmware in the ET was the same - i.e., if I bought SL later, would I need a f/w update in the ET? - the answer was no... the f/w is the same. So, I'm beginning to wonder about the f/w between a PSL4 and a PSL8 ....

I was just wondering what the Run Once section in SL is used for? - could I leverage that to run something once a day? - just tried that - it relies on the egg timers (which rely on / use up a schedule!!!).... Gee - this is "impressive" - I waited 2-weeks for Pentair to get their demo system online and gave up... now I can see why they weren't so quick at getting it back online!)

Next question is re., the History screen - can you add a new data series - e.g., High Speed and Medium Speed to the data series to be graphed:

Thanks,

Ray.
