Without using a scale, would the following be in the ballpark of being accurate if I want to use volume to add my dry CYA?

  1. Using Pool Math, take recommended pounds to add to reach target level and convert to grams
  2. Divide grams from step 1 by density (g/cm3) taken from SDS of manufacturer of CYA
  3. cm3 = mL
  4. Measure mL in measuring cup

Density of the CYA is going to vary by brand. Do you not have a scale?

1 cup is about 7oz dry weight...but varies by brand.

<jaw drop> Whoa!! Way too much math for me....prefer the easier route of using PoolMath's "Effects of Adding x Chemical" and my cheap old kitchen scale. I worked it out for you and 16 ounces in a pool of 9336 gallons will raise your CYA level 13, and lower pH by 0.24

The brand I purchased had its density on its own SDS.

I was able to raise my CYA by 20ppm by adding almost 27oz by volume (vs 25 oz weight). The CYA density of the brand I used wasn’t that far off from 1 which made the weight vs volume amounts similar
