Yeah, my thoughts are this guy doesn’t know what he is talking about. First, sand doesn’t need to be changed, although it might need a deep cleaning. The cartridges needed to be hosed off. And that blue mineral stuff is copper-based which will lead to staining and should not be added to a pool.
Please don’t be tempted by this kind of thing. You are almost there!
I can assure you that my pool is crystal clear without anything like that. Chlorine form the salt water generator, stabilizer, and acid to reduce the Ph every once in awhile. Less is better.
$109.00 for a single treatment. Plus this guy would have folks throw out perfectly good cartridges and sand instead of cleaning them.
Is sand expensive? I agree with cleaning the cartridges, but sand? Does a sand filter require some sort of special/expensive sand?
Sand is not particularly expensive, but it does have to be a certain size to work in a sand filter. You can get #20 silica sand for around $25-30 for a 50lb bag. A 24" diameter sand filter takes about 300lbs of sand. Changing out sand is a bit of a pain as you need to scoop it out by hand being careful not to break the laterals, or use a shop vac. If you break a lateral then it must be replaced for the filter to work properly. Then you have to find someplace to put 150-300lbs of wet sand.
Pool is looking better day by day. I found some underwater pool putty and puttied the areas of concern... still have a leak but it seems to have slowed down a bit. Wondering now if there’s a hole in the vinyl or worse... a cracked pipe

Get the pool clear and then we can help troubleshoot for leaks. 
What about sticking your vacuum hose down at that end so you pull the water from the bottom?
These were taken in low light conditions. I’m unable to load the shallow end due to “ too large” of a file size. It’s way lighter I’ll see if I can’t get one today before work.
