Doheny's Discovery, S200, Active20, Triton owners club

Well, after using my Active 20 for a week, all I can say is save your money. The swivel is so hard to turn that it does not really help at all in avoiding tangles. I have to manually untangle it every other time it cleans.

After untangling the cord, does it clean better than your old suction / blower type cleaner? Unfortunately, if you are leaving the cleaner in the pool the whole time and expect it not to tangle, then you will be disappointed with any cleaner. If you just add that 2 minutes every few days to your cleaning cycle, then this cleaner is the beez kneez. I have both types and wouldn't go back to non robot type cleaner... ever!

:goodpost:

Agree 100%. The minor inconvenience of detangling the cord when cleaning out the basket is a non-issue for me. This robot keeps my pool so much cleaner than my Pentair Legend II pressure cleaner. There is no comparison. And the basket is so much easier to clean than the nylon debris bag and it holds 3 or 4 times more stuff. All around it is winner winner chicken dinner.

I've thought about returning my Active 20 for the same reason :(

In Post #1097 thebombardier (he services robots and cleaners) commented that, if the swivel cord is not freely rotating, then it is likely malfunctioning and it should be covered as a warranty repair. The swivel is supposed to rotate freely so I would contact whichever vendor you bought the robot from and get a repair done.

If you:
1. don’t leave it in the pool and
2. use the “over/under” method of coiling the cable,
with or without a swivel there are no tangles.

If you don’t use the “over/under” method, you are putting twists into the cable every time you coil it.

I’ve never seen a tangle in Kokopelli’s cable yet.

Agree with chiefwej and pooldv...I don't leave my S200 in the pool and I don't have a tangle issue. The unit does such a great job that I can see and feel a difference. Yes I still do a quick once over with the brush but only along the tile. Since I put the unit in the pool I have not had to clean my pump basket in a month!!

Mentioned already but they eat dog hair for breakfast, lunch and dinner, happily.

Finally bit the bullet and am replacing our 9 year-old Aquabot classic. Tired of the cloth bag and the cord repairs. Ordered an Active 20 from Marina and can't wait to see it in action! One word of caution - Marina was great to deal with, but they didn't tell me that they ship Fedex with direct signature required. Because we both work we missed our delivery today. Am having to have it held at a Fedex location for pickup. No other options...

I actually taped a note next to my door for the FedEx courier with my tracking number providing consent for them to leave at my door and signed it. I have 2 security cameras mounted and a planter box that hides it from the street so I felt safe enough to have a $900 box sitting there. I also live on a cul de sac so light traffic. They took a picture of my note and left it there. YMMV.

Interesting. We also live on a cut de sac and I would have been fine with them leaving it. But the door sticker stated that a "direct signature" was required (meaning in-the-flesh). Maybe the driver would have accepted your method too, but I figured if not that would just add more delay. Fortunately shippers practically never restrict (in my experience) so not normally a problem. Supposedly it should be at the FedEx counter at Walgreen's tomorrow. Finally...

Sorry to hear that. Can you return it? My S200 works great and no tangle issues to speak of...

You might inquire with Maytronics and consider warranty service. It doesn’t make any sense that the swivel doesn’t turn. If it requires that much force to turn it, then something sounds wrong.

I have an Active 30i 2018 with a swivel and I agree with blueman2 that the swivel is very hard to turn so it still tangles.

Sorry, but I did not mean I was unhappy with my Active 20. I LOVE it!!! I meant to say that anyone who is considering buying a swivel cord to replace a non-swivel cord should save their money. The swivel is not that much better than regular.

But the Active 20 is TOTALLY worth the money I spent on it, even with the less than perfect swivel cord. Should have done it much earlier....

Also, just got my rebate approved today. So they are VERY fast with these....

Hello - new to this forum and already loving it. I have read around 20 of the 56 pages on this thread and just need a little help yet. Can someone confirm if the S200 and Doheny's Discovery are the same model? I see the Doheny's Discovery on their website for $719.99 right now. I am still waiting for a call back from Marina to get the price on the S200 model. Second question - are you able to use the Maytronics rebate on the purchase of the Doheny's Discovery?

Thanks in advance and sorry if this was already answered in this thread already and I missed it.

I noticed something really neat over the past few weeks of using my Active 20. The cleaner always seems to return to where it started, which is really nice. I have just one open area of my solar pool cover where I put the cleaner in and this is also the only convenient place to pull it out. It is nice that it seems to (almost) always return to that spot, which prevents me from having to pull on the cord to get it where I can grab it out.

Is this normal or is am I just lucky?

Now that I think about it Phin ends up in the general area when done. I will watch more closely over the next few cleanings...

It seems to frequently return to the starting point area, but not always. I even had it start and finish on my tanning ledge a couple times. That would be really convenient if I could depend on that happening regularly.
