Does liquid CYA expire?

I have had my hot tub 4 months now and it has consistently consumed about 15 ppm of cya every 14 or so days. I have been using granular cya or diachlor to bump it up but not really satisified with either. The diachlor increases my fc when not needed and the granular cya is a pain either having to run the hot tub forever to get it to disolve or trying to disolve it in a bucket prior to putting it in the tub.
So my thought was to use liquid cya. You can get 1 gallon on amazon for $22 and based on pool math, that would last me a year, so not too bad a deal.
The question is does cya expire or lose potency over time?

It will not expire - but - it is just granular in an aqueous solution. So you will still have some granules.

Seems like a lot of consumption of CYA.

I agree it's high consumption, but have no idea why or what to do about it.

Hot tubs typically have much higher CYA oxidation rates owning to the higher temperatures (made worse if an ozonator is present).

As Marty says, you liquid CYA should be fine for a year especially if it’s stored indoors in a cool dry space.

This is my experience as well, so you are not alone.

What I do is bust up chunks of trichlor pucks, and put them in a floater designed for covered pools, dialed down to a slow dissolve rate. Trichlor is very acidic, so I only add it when ph gets above 7.8. There is no need for other kinds of acid this way, and it maintains my CYA level. Of course it adds chlorine as well, but I consider that to be the gravy on top.

Whatever works for you should be fine.
