The pool company recommended a product called POR. It is a multi-part treatment, solution to clean, seal and recoat the pitted area.
I cleaned, primed and painted mine. bad pitting. Clean prime and paint. it slows it down. But you can put off the big expense to replace coping.
Painting with anything will make it look nice for about 6 months, but the corrosion will continue underneath and the bubbles will start to show the bad spots. I dig mine out with pick and fill with JB weld, sand and repaint. Real pain.
