do you really test EVERY day?

I just started with the TFP program and am really loving it. But am concerned whether I can really keep this up every day for a complete pool season, much less several years. I have a little bit of a distraction problem! I am diligent right now, even journaling every day what I do, but wonder whether there will come a time when I can relax a little and just "know" what to add? As much as I am loving this process, I wonder if it is only for really 'routine" oriented people, of which I am not
This is not critical of process, I would recommend BBB to anyone...probably more a question of my own capabilities.
DO you really have to EVERY day?

Getting to know your pool, so to speak, you will eventually be able to predict its needs.

For example, I only test tuesday and saturday if nobody has used the pool all week. I know half
a gallon of bleach will be added those days.

But when I have a lot of guests over, I do have to test after they leave because it usually
needs a dose of chlorine.

I test ph once a week and cya once a month.

i test once a week once the pool is balance, once a month i would run down the tests just to make sure, but what i see is if there is problem with the water then the water is usefully not clear. I found a electronic PH test on amazon for tests (just hold it in pool and hit the button) if number were off i would double check with my test kit

I just got one of the electronic test kits, and it s MUCH easier to test and MUCH MUCH faster

My first season I probably tested a minimum of 5 days out of 7. I inherited astronomical CYA during severe water restrictions and I was terrified of developing algae. And then there was also the superhigh CH so things required careful monitoring to prevent scale.

After a long enough time, I can predict my readings with amazing accuracy before drop one leaves the bottle. I test FC & pH 2 or 3 times a week and test everything maybe twice a month. I add the usual amount of bleach even on days I don't test.

Don't be in a hurry to skip testing. Reagents are a lot cheaper than all the bleach needed for a SLAM.

My pool has been open for a little over a month, use a SWG. got every thing balanced and was testing every day, not much change. Started testing every 2 or 3 days, with using a test strip in between just to be on the safe side. Numbers seamed solid with no change. Been testing 4 or 5 days, today's numbers didn't budge. I will most likely stay with that schedule, and use test strips in between as long as I have them.

Yes, sometimes twice! I'm an addict...only my fc though. My ph has been stable for almost a month now.

That's a lot of R-0871! Do you buy it in gallon containers? :) We just passed our OCLT and I was looking forward to not having to use so much reagents now that I don't have to test SLAM levels. I suppose once we are back to normal FC levels, it won't take so much R-0871, right?

I test my pool every 2-3 days, just to make sure things are working right. Since I got my Stenner set-up, and dialed in, I only have to adjust for Ph every once in a while, (maybe once a week with all the rain we have had here lately).

With that being said though, before I got my Stenner, I tested every day, and added bleach as was needed. I came here trying to kill a green pool, and have stuck around since these nice people took the time to help me get it straight, and KEEP it that way. I don't ever want to have to battle a swamp again, if I can avoid it! Plus I now spend a WHOLE lot less money on pool chems per year!

Put chlorine in every day. Put test most days. I test everyday after opening and than see what the demand levels off to and then check every other day. Sometimes you can't check if time limits but I put in what was required the last time I tested.

Until I get the SWG dialed in, I will test every day or two. Once dialed in, I will test every 2-3 days, depending upon weather and use. If no one is swimming, or just my wife and I for a dip, may go a few days. If grandkids, dogs, will test more often.

I still test FC and PH everyday, but could probably get away with just adding. If I added blindly, I would probably end up using more chlorine in an effort to be safe than sorry.

One way I'm trying to dial in my daily amount, is that I blindly add my liquid chlorine every night. I then test in morning to see if I am range to get me through the day. Lately, I have noticed I need to add a little more in morning as we get closer to summer.

I make a point to estimate the results before I perform the tests. As my estimates get more and more accurate, I increase time between tests. This is particularly easy during periods of low usage, and conversely, the impact of 4-5 guests can be almost impossible for me to predict. (I think some of my friends are dirtier than others!) lol

Well, thanks for all of the info. I have found myself testing every day. It has definitely leveled off and I am really getting a feel for how much I need to add. I have missed a day or two here and there and have just guesstimated, and then checked following day. All seems to be going well. Again, I am so happy to have converted to BBB. Much Easier!
