Just chlorine. Algaecide doesn't kill algae, most bottles even say it on the label. Algaecide can help to prevent algae in certain situations for a short time. But, chlorine is the only thing that will kill algae. I've never put algaecide in my pool, ever.

Algaecides are not needed.
Algaecides work as a preventative rather than a cure in the same way that Lysol stops cold germs from spreading but drinking it after you have a cold won't cure it.
Bleach is all you need to kill algae and keep it at bay.

I am new to this site but having major problems and someone told me about checking this site out. I have already put tons of stuff in my pool and its still a lite green. They are wanting me to put more algecide in tomorrow with more shock. On here it says to add liquid Clorox or bleach which is the same I guess right? So how do you know how much to add to get rid of green water?

Pool School. Study the SLAM process. Pool Math will tell you how much, and how the process goes will tell you when to add.
Yes, bleach is sodium hypochlorite which is the same chemical that is in liquid chlorine. Be sure it is unscented and isn't splash less or easy pour. Just plain, old concentrated bleach. I buy the store brand at kroger.

Your time and money would be better spent by ordering a proper test kit and doing a little reading in Pool School.
Before you rush off to do something, start with the ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry Then move to the chemistry page and read up on how to chlorinate and what a proper test kit is, and how to use poolmath. Then when you have a test kit, you follow the steps in the SLAM Process article. There are some good threads that show the process in Recovering my old inspirational links
