I’ve had a pool guy for several years. He’s only okay but it was taking too much of my time to do the pool every week (I wasn’t good at it). He just asked me to buy something called Poolrx black mineral clarifier and I’ve never heard of it.

I don’t have any algae at the moment, he cleans the filter twice a year already and comes weekly.

I’ve never heard of needing such a product. Is this thing necessary?

Well, I would say no, but that is for someone following TFPC. If you are going to have someone else manage your pool then you need to listen to their instructions. Mixing pool care advice just leads to more trouble.

I just looked it up since I never heard of it. Just as suspected - metals.

Water 30 - 45%
Copper sulfate 35 - 50%
Chelating agent Proprietary --- 5 - 15%
Zinc sulfate 1.0 - 5.0%

There's no denying that copper sulfate is an effective algaecide. They used to put it in the manmade lake at the amusement park where I worked my first job to keep the algae from taking over. But it can stain things bad. Do you want green hair and nails?

I wouldn't put it in my pool.
