I was having real issues with air in my system and I eventually discovered that the o-rings on the diverter valve stems had failed. Every time that the pump shut off I would loose the prime and the wet side of the pump would eventually go dry. It would take several minutes for the pump to build enough head pressure when it started up to pull water from my drain and skimmer.
I began to replace the diverter valve o-rings, there are eight total, three of them on the low side, and five on the pressure side, with the low side thinking it was the cause of the air leak, and it was great seeing that the air bubbles were not getting thru the check valve any more. There was one more issue though, and that was the draining of my filter backflowing into the pool because of the leaking valve stems on the high side. When the pump shut down I could hear the gurgling sound of the water rushing out of the high side back into the cleaner system (PCC-2000) and my returns! Replacing the o-rings on all eight of my diverters solved the issue and now I have a tight air free pool line!
