Diverter valve actuators orientation?

We are plumbing a pool and are considering putting an actuated valve in a vertical orientation where the valve stem/actuator will be coming off the valve sideways rather than on top. There appears to be holes in the bottom of the actuator case and I don't know of they are to let any water out of the case. Don't want to let any water in if this is indeed their purpose.

Anyone have any idea if there is an issue mounting these actuators sideways vs up?

Here is a picture.

People do it, but I do not know if Pentair, Hayward or Jandy are OK with a vertical orientation.

The Installation Manuals do not address this issue that I could find.

Ask the Manufacturer.

I called Pentair and they couldn't give me a solid answer. The unit looks sealed to me. The picture with the corrosion (above) looks to be an older style model.

My gut tells me it'll be fine. They say weatherproof. Seems silly to not be a sealed unit.

Like you said, I couldn't find any literature stating preference or limitations.
