Working on the pool opening this past weekend. Pulled off the cover and started to add water while working on the other pool opening chores. While installing the ladder, my wife asked me what is wrong with the liner. I turned around to see what she was talking about and see this huge tear in the liner. It happened while filling the pool. It was not there when I took the covers off. Full disclosure on the liner is that it is well past the time it should have been replaced. I had already contacted my pool store to have them come out this week and measure for a liner replacement in the fall so I was planning on the replacement before this happened. I cannot get the water level high enough to be able to use the water filter without going above the level of the tear. The tear is probably 12 inches from top to bottom. I am not sure if something like this can be patched or not. My question is that assuming that this is not something that can be patched for a temporary repair, what do I do about the water in the pool. I am thinking that I need to pump all water out of the pool and then put the safety cover back on until the new liner arrives. My plans to replace the liner in the fall has now changed into a matter of how quickly can I get this done. I expect at least a month or two before the replacement liner will be available. Looking for any help the forum can give on this. What a disaster! UGH!
