Dirty water flowing to the pool after triggering backwash

Is this normal? When I set it to backwash, I see water outside of the pool flowing into the pool. The water is dirty.

Follow this pipe and you'll find the end of it spewing, which evidentally is downhill to the pool from that point. Either a hose needs to be attached so you can re route the flow, or there is one there that came apart.
