Dirt/Debris Falls Into Pool When Removing Robot

Just moved into a new house with a pool and am looking for a robotic pool cleaner. Demoed a Polaris 9650iq, Dolphin M600 and Dolphin S300i. All of them clean very well but on the two Dolphin models, dirt/debris fell from the robot when removing it from the water. This occurred briefly as I held the handle at the edge of the pool and let the water drain back into the pool before full removal. Any idea why this occurs?

I like the Dolphin models but I'm considering getting the Polaris on the basis that it didn't dump dirt/debris back in the pool. Just want to make sure I'm not missing something before making this decision.

Thanks
Brian

The only time mine did that is when the filter cartridges were worn out and it would only be fine dirt. Now that everything is working how it should mine keeps everything in the filter basket.

Welcome to the forum!
That is odd. My Dolphin robot does not do that. I suspect the flap on the bottom is for some reason not closing when you pull the robot out. Lots of leaves?
I suggest you read ABC's of Pool Water Chemistry.

Thanks for the reply. Did not have many leaves in the basket. It's a demo so who knows how much wear and tear it's seen. I did not verify if the bottom flap was closing.

Mine works flawlessly. I suspect you will be very pleased with a Dolphin robot. Many of us have purchased them from Marina Pool Spa in Denver, CO. They take phone orders only.

That was definitely an issue with older-generation Dolphins, but the current lineup has the one-way flap. On a demo unit it may have more wear or may have been installed poorly. It's a cheap part (around $5), so if it ever shows signs of failure it's easily remedied.

Hi Brian,
I had the exact same experience this evening. I picked up a demo Dolphin Active 30 this afternoon, got home and immediately threw it in the pool. Pulled it out of the water as I had seen on instructional videos on YouTube and watched all the crud fall back into my already murky water. Disappointing. Tomorrow I am washing out the filter very well, fiddle with the flaps, and will give it another go.
Did you make a purchase yet, if so, what did you select?

Look for a small hole in the one-way flap piece. It doesn't take much of a hole in it to let all the junk return to the pool. If the robot doesn't pick up the very fine dirt with the fine filters in it, then it most likely will have a small hole in the flap.

I am having the same issue - sometimes dirt falls into pool water when taking out of pool and it is not picking up as good as I though it would. I will check for a small hole. I have a brand new Prowler 917
