Diffuser & Backing Plate

I'm replacing my Jandy Stealth pump motor. When I disassembled, the diffuser was not attached to the backing plate. As you can see from the pictures, one of the screws is sheered off and the other one is missing. The plate and the diffuser are not cracked or warped.

None of the local stores have a backing plate. An online order wont arrive until this time next week...if I'm lucky. I've been without a pump for 2 weeks. I don't see any algae yet, but I'm afraid of a bloom.

My question is can I reinstall if the diffuser is not screwed to the backing plate? If i ensure the impeller fits/seats into the diffusser? Do I risk damaging something else? Not as a permanent fix but to buy time until the parts come in?

Add 1/2 gallon to 1 gallon of 10% liquid chlorine daily to your pool, and mix it in using your pool brush, until you get your pump running to prevent algae.

Pull out this insert and then use regular screws that will bite into the open holes.

Do not go too deep.

All you need is enough bite to hold the diffuser in place.

You can use self tapping screws or regular screws that are just big enough for the threads to bite into the plastic.

You could also use superglue to hold the diffuser in place and then replace the diffuser and sealplate later if necessary.

Hopefully, you will never need to open it again until it needs to be replaced.

Replace the seal.

You can see where the impeller has rubbed against the bronze ring in the diffuser. They should not touch, but with a missing screw the diffuser can move enough to damage the impeller.

Looks like the seal was leaking and damaged the motor.

The trichlor probably damaged the Polaris impeller from an earlier thread.

Maybe consider changing to SWG and get off of trichlor tabs.

Can you show the motor shaft?
