Did I destroy my pump?

Glanced out At the pool this morning and noticed there was no flow. Walked around to the pump and it was on and the filter basket was virtually empty. I quickly shut it off and noticed a pool float had been partially sucked into the skimmer this morning blocking water from going to the pump. Is there any way to tell if I did any damage to the pump? I’m surprised it was still running with very little water in the filter basket. For what it’s worth it was probably running like this for about an hour.

You discovered one of the problems with having only one skimmer.

All you can do is run your pump and monitor it for leaks. Watch for any drips between the pump and the motor. What usually fails is the seal that overheats and deforms letting water leak down the shaft into the motor.
