Decreasing water level without opening pool

Is there a way to decrease the water level in my pool * before opening it * using the pool pump (not an external pump?) The company opening my pool needs to do some work on the lights, but I don't want to pay them to stand around while they get the water level low enough. I am having trouble finding an external pump to rent, and don't want to buy one.

In other words, can I safely pump water out from the bottom drain without opening the skimmer and jets?

You can crack your line plugs anytime anyway freeze danger is over. Just make sure you can close your skimmers all the way and just allow the bottom drain. My pool allows me to do this.
