Decision made - finally - Nordic Encore LS (2020 model) - electrical question please

Ironically that’s the one the wife wants
There's no seats that I can tell, same as on an inflatable, so you sit on the bottom with your legs straight out in front of you, or you are on your haunches which gets old in a hurry... I would think long and hard before you put 6 grand into one!! An el cheapo unit would be a better choice, at least in my opinion, I've had two like that and not so good... And any more than 2 people side by side your legs will be all tangled up.. been there done that.

Well we would only be looking at their largest model the Portico which has a bench seat in it and will comfortably allow for 4 people or so I have been told by 2 different owners I spoke to on the phone.

Frankly I just don't know not sold on it not sold against it either.

Wife likes the idea of the softub for the following reasons:
- portable, easy to move (not that we would ever take it anywhere) very little hassle to deal with for any purpose even if we just relocated
- if or when we get tired of it there is no big undertaking to get rid of it unlike a traditional tub (same idea if it was to be sold down the line easy to get it out and move on to the new person)
- energy efficient based on what I have been reading - i.e. not a big spike in the electric bill (this of course is a YMMV since every person's situation is different)
- we are not big time jet people (yeah I know sounds odd but let me explain). So when we use a tub we like the massaging of the jets but can only tolerate it for a short time like a few mins as we start to itch really bad and just end up moving to a spot with no jets or turning the jets off (usually the later). In a traditional tub there are jets everywhere and while nicer tubs have lots of flow control abilities (redirect, reduce etc) not all do and thus spots for comfortable relaxation and chill time w/o the uncomfortable itching would be more difficult w/o just turning off the jets completely (so why have all the jets then). I certainly feel like we are more of a soaker couple than a deep massage couple but who knows I could be completely off base here and if we owned a tub would feel different. I can say that my wife's #1 thing is to disappear to our tiny Rear bathtub every night and soak for an hour and that is just a tub of water. The Softub has jets yes and several seem to be decent massaging style etc but I think it would offer great soakability with how the main jet really moves the water around. w/o the uncomfortable itchiness Not saying you can't get that with a traditional tub as well just saying it seems different and perhaps better.

I do think the Softub is about 2k overpriced but then again all the traditional tubs are overpriced in my book as well so its an apples to apples thing for me.

As far as resell down the line well I truly don't think that matters in my area (other areas it might). As I have clearly seen over the last almost 3 months of looking tubs are either severely overpriced (yes I know Covid effect) or they are cheap tubs (i.e. big box store style) that will need work and some are nothing more than massive projects that are too much for me (aka the one yesterday). So I am basically not factoring resale into our decision.

I guess I want what everyone wants in their first tub and it doesn't exist. I want to keep cost down for initial purchase. I want decent features but don't need complete insanity (ie speakers etc) - lighting would be nice yes but there are add on lights for tubs that can be done of course. I want something that won't break the bank on the electric bill. I want something that we will enjoy and won't be a broken POS a year from now. Also want world peace but that might be an easier solve ;).

In essence we are in a dilemma about what to do.

What we do know is that we do want a tub but that is about the only certainty in this picture.

As always I appreciate everyone's comments and advice. Thanks.

So... if you just want a soaker and a soft tub, why not an inflatable.. less than a grand... Shipped to your door, inflate ,fill, and plug it in... I do think it would turn you off of hot tubs, but who knows? And what does the Softub offer in addition other than 5 grand on the price?

^^^^^^ I feel ya man. On the plus side, it’s kinda like pools, just smaller. There are really no wrong answers. Do you prefer to lounge/swim at a $100k backyard resort ? Of course you do. Who wouldn’t ? But do you want to, or can you pay for it ? Well here is where things get complicated and concessions are made. Maybe all the way down to a $1500 Intex pool (soft tub). It’s no stunning beauty, but the price is right and when it’s hot out, they are equally as wet.

Will the soft tub or starter tub stay hot as long or be as enjoyable as the full tub ? Probably not. So you go inside after a quick, but still nice soak and watch a movie on the $10k TV you bought with the savings. Boohoo. :)

with respect to an inflatable one? way better built, jets not bubbles, and basic seat (nothing major of course), more efficient pump and heater, should last a lot longer. These are just the things I have picked from reading. As I said though I still think its 2k too much.

You make me laugh with just about every post!

We did the intex pool deal already. Went with the simple small frame pool which crapped out in a few months, next year we went with their ahem fancy higher end frame pool (uhh dumb its the same thing just more expensive) so got a used steel wall pool. Used for about 12 years until we just got too busy to deal with and it rusted out on us (too big of a job to deal with an maintain tbh) it was just taken down and out this week and yard clean up is progress.

I am almost 100% certain we will not do an inflatable hot tub. I just have a feeling I know how that will go/end.

If I thought I could trust it I would probably buy the 4k big box store tub and hope for the best but I am truly convinced it will be a nightmare and I will regret every moment and year from now be begging someone to come get the thing.

BIG decision, big bucks , and lots of questions with no perfect answers.. dang aint this fun!!
I'm glad to hear you are steering away from an inflatable.. does that include the Softub? I hope so but it isnt me deciding.
You also have to remember the people with problems are the ones that post, all the happy owners of big box store tubs do not, they are too busy enjoying their tub.
For an example the worst tub I have ever owned was an Artesian.. highly regarded by a lot of people but not the one we got, 9 grand and all we had from day one is problems but we got it from a good dealer and they took it back... what I'm saying I guess is ANY tub can have problems not just the big box store tubs
A lot of the inexpence of the cheaper tubs is less jets, which you dont like that much anyway.. Find something with 220v, and 2 good sized pumps and give it a shot. Way back when thats what we started with and it turned out great and been doing tubs ever since and loving it... twice a day almost every day.. but I'm old so I have the time.

I brighten every room I enter. For the fun folks it’s when I enter. For the serious folks it’s when I leave. But nobody can take the fact away that I still brightened the room either way. :ROFLMAO:

Out of the list you presented, I would nix the Master Spa and the Softub. Worst case, you can sleep in the tub when the wife throws you out of the bedroom. :ROFLMAO:

Yes, you will pay a premium for available now but going new, with a warranty, from a good dealer has value.

I hear what you are saying but I have no idea. I have gone back and forth many times. Its all up in the air.

I do honestly keep coming back the Envoy in NC though. Every time I look at it I just think wow that is amazing, how could we not be happy with getting that. Then I easily go Dang that's a lot and how and the heck am I going to get it here, get it on the porch etc etc but then I go man that's a lot of tub!

I guess my thing is that I just don't know if I want to spend that much its $8500 + $500 to get someone to move it out of his yard and on to a trailer for me. I have the expense of the trip and the trailer rental and still need to get a crew to help me get it on my porch. It does include the breaker box and wiring I would need which would save a few $$ for sure.

Good grief guy in NC with Envoy is making this even tougher I have a price I may not be able turn down now

Also found a professional mover that would bring it to me for $1200 which doesn't seem terrible considering the distance.

That doesn't sound terrible at all to move a tub from it's current home and trailer it a couple hundred miles and drop it in place. Sounds like you may need to take a road trip to see it this weekend. If they dropped the price enough to cover the move, you might have your new tub.

Let's just say that the posted price is $8500 and even with the expense of the move I would not be paying that much (slightly less). So like I said tough decision now.
