I replaced the old DE unit with a Hayward DE4820 Pro-Grid 48 Sq. Ft. Vertical DE Pool Filter about 7-8 months ago. I took everything apart since it needed to be cleaned. But for some reason the filter keeps leaking when I put everything back together.

I do have a bit of experience with DE filters. But for somer reason this new model is not cooperating. The instructions calls for 150 in=lbs of clamping force to close the clamp. I don't want to over torque and risk breaking something.

I cleaned the o ring and the perimeter of the filter and re lubed it. already tried twice and keeps on leaking.

it's been mid 60Fs the last two days. So I am not sure if that will shrink the o ring. maybe there is a trick to these new clamping system that I am not aware , any suggestions ?

Make sure that the surfaces where the oring touches are clean and lightly lubricated with silicone lubricant.

Make sure that the oring is clean.

While tightening the clamp, tap on the clamp with a rubber hammer.

pure,

Did you actually use a torque wrench? Based solely upon the manual, it is appears to me that the gap between the two halves of the ring is too wide. Do you see about half an inch of threads sticking out of the nut?

Other than what James said above, I can't think of anything else.

Thanks for posting,

Jim R.
