DE filter cleaning when opening pool

Hi!
After a winter with mesh cover, my pool water will be very dirty when I open the pool. I disassembled my Hayward DE4820 filter last autumn and washed all elements completely. If I add DE first, I'll have filter clogged in no time. Last year I had to clean or backwash the filter and then add DE back a few times when I opened the pool. Is there a way around this laborious method?

We have a mesh cover and use a suction side cleaner with a canister with a fine mesh filter to vacuum up all the debris and catch it before it goes to the filter. A robot would be great too as they have their own container. If your manual vacuum hose is in sections and not all 1 piece then you could add a canister there when you vacuum.

A skimmer sock/hairnet would help too.

If you are just trying to get dirt out of the pool you really have no option but to run the filter and backwash and recharge often.

If you have algae and need to follow the slam process, you can use the recirculate option on your multi valve if you have it to circulate the water until you kill all the algae. But then you need to start the filtration process.
