DE filter circumferential clamp closer tip.

Does anyone else struggle with the brass retaining nuts used to compress the circumferential clamp on the DE filter body? It seems that I don't have quite enough thread to get the nut started. I know, loosen both sides, hit it with a rubber mallet, etc.

This trick worked for me: grasp each side with a Vice Grip plier and pull them together with a C-Clamp.

That is very strange because it is designed to be able to start the thread without force . Show a picture of the ring tightened up.
Also, the older clamps had 2 screws to bolt the 2 halves together. Then it went to 1 screw with the two halves connected by a hinge on one side.

Are you seating the filter lid completely before you put on the band clamp?

Something’s not right if you are having to put vice grips and a C clamp on it.

Is that the original clamp or was your clamp swapped out for some reason?

Thank you for the thoughtful replies! This filter was here when I bought the house. I have no reason to think it was replaced. It has a screw and spring tightener on each side. Two total. No hinge. I have the top seated before I tighten it as best I know. Pics later. Thank you again for the replies!

Do you unscrew both when you remove the clamp? That is the key - loosen both and then put in the screw and nut on both. Sometimes it takes 4 hands. My old filter was like that and I always needed some help to hold it all in place as I alternately tighten both screws up.
