I am looking at an 80 ft.² DE cartridge filter. What intrigues me with this unit, is the fact that I can also put in it a different style set of cartridges that do not use DE. This gives me a rated square footage of over 400 ft.². The unit is really being offered at an incredible discount making it quite attractive. Thoughts?

44,

I have a large cartridge filter and will never, ever go back to DE...

The larger the filter the less back pressure there will be.

I see no advantage to buying a DE filter, and then converting it into a standard cartridge filter as you still have the multiport valve.. Removing this valve is one of the great things about a large cartridge filter..

If you can buy the DE filter at a great price, just install it as a standard cartridge filter... But... Keep in mind that many, if not all, DE filters work backwards from cartridges filters.. The Input and Output ports are reversed.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Nothing in that Leslie's description mentions changing from DE to Cartridge filtering. If you look at the parts breakdown they are using the cartridges for DE filtering. It's not "convertible." It's also discounted from $1439 to $576 which means it's on clearance. That could mean it's not such a great design or at least not a good seller. Maybe I'm wrong, but someone who knows Jacuzzi will know better.

I figured I would update this with our latest information. In terms of this filter being either a standalone cartridge versus a cartridge DE combo. The difference is the manifold. But, all of that being said, there is a main issue with this whole thing! The two units are in the process of being discontinued and when you look up parts for them, they are all showing as discontinued, no longer being manufactured! So this is a no go for us!
