Damp around brand new above ground pool

Just started filling brand new pool 24 hours ago. It’s very damp around pool and in one spot is it a puddle. Pool store says combination of squeezing water out of sand and condensation from cold water and warm air. Water level does not appear to be dropping, but it’s seams like too much to be condensation. It is still growing. I’ve held off filing since concerned will have to replace liner. Have 12 inches in now.

Any idea what it could be?

Hi, welcome to TFP! I would like to ask a few questions to help you sort this out. Did you have to dig down much to level the ground for the pool? Do you know if you have a high water table where you live? Has there been a lot of rain recently? Can you tell me a little about the pool itself, brand and size? Are you able to get in and out of the pool?

That does look like a lot of water for normal condensation. I kind of doubt you built the pool on top of a field of oobleck!

Hi zea3,

thank you for assisting. We dug 2 feet down to make semi inground. We dug a week before and it’s been bone dry no rain for past 2 weeks. Water table isn’t high and I have a basement that goes much deeper and never has water in it. Pool is 15 feet by 26 feet and brand is Extruder. I could get in pool. Wet area correlates exactly where the vertical seam is on liner. I can get in if I tried. It’s been warm and sort of humid past 2 days.

I would get a piece of masking tape and mark the water level and check it again 24 hours later. If it doesn't drop anymore that is probably the level where the leak is. Take a flashlight and examine the seam closely and see if you see a split in the seam. If you don't find the leak you can add 1-2" of water and check the seams with drops of food coloring. Add a couple of drops of food color slowly at the seam and watch what happens. If you have a leak at that point you will see the dye get sucked into the liner.

I had a similar fear filling my pool up last year… it was just groundwater squishing out.

keep filling it, and see what happens. Mark where the water is and let it sit. See if it drops - but keep in mind 1/4” per day is normal for a pool due to evaporation

That doesnt look like ground water, no leaks by skimmer or returns?

Was this ever resolved. We were installing a AGP this weekend and we’re just filling and installing exterior panels when I found water at the base in one area. Up under the liner as it curves to the ground. On tarp and under liner. It’s about a bath towel worth if you wipe it up. But each time I check it’s wet again. 14” in pool and held overnight at same depth. We measured and checked again. But clearly the water seems dig it and scared to fill rest of the pool.
