You are a fairly new to TFP. Your CYA is 60. Always round up to the next 10.

I'd leave it at 60 for this year. If you get down to 50, add 10ppm to raise to 60 again. The reason I make this recommendation is that if you happen to let FC get too low and you get algae, way easier to slam at 60 than 70 or 80.

Next year, when you are really good at maintaining your FC for your CYA (Link-->FC/CYA Levels) then raise it to 70 or 80.
Thanks. Cya was closer to 50 and I rounded up to 55 lol. I think I’ll add a little cya if u agree
I’m still trying to dial in the SWG. It runs 12 hrs but I don’t want to tax the generator too much so I leave % too low most likely. I’ll bump it up a bit. It’s not even at 50%

Sure. Add 10ppm. On the CYA test, just fill to each line. When the dot is obscured, take the number on that line and add 10.

You are not taxing the generator. 12 hours at 50% and 24 hours at 25% will deplete the same amount from the cell. It is made to work, use it.

Thank you. I will do it now. When you say “ obscured” you mean when I can no longer see a hint of the black dot, correct? That test plays tricks on eyes
I have zero CC’s. Do u think I need an overnight test? I don’t wanna go too far down rabbit hole

Also, why is PH so “unscientific”. The colors are hard to dial in

Good instructions on the CYA test. Link-->CYA - Cyanuric Acid Test

Go ahead and do OCLT for insurance.

I did overnight test. PM result was 17 drops so called it 9 ppm. Morning test was 7 ppm. I have zero Cc
Pump running 12 hours at 50% now. I don’t feel I need to and definitely don’t want to go through the hassle of a SLAM.
THANKS

17 is 8.5, not 9. You lost 1.5 overnight. I would call that a fail. I would raise to SLAM level for a day and try again. You did turn off the salt cell for the test?
Yes, I did turn it off and managed to remember to turn it on this morning

I’ve been following this site since the pool was installed. FC has always been good. I test regularly with TF100. How would I get algae? No signs of it and no CC

The absence of cc doesn’t mean there is no algae.
The oclt results could be a fluke/user error but you do want to be sure.
The 1ppm is there as a built in variant already.
Sometimes with a swcg it can keep things under control enough for a while that you only notice higher fc losses.
If your cya has been low it’s possible that you could have skirted minimum at some point (high uv day) then your swcg made the difference back up before you tested again.
Not saying this happened, as I don’t know all your logs, but just trying to clear up why we are all suggesting you be certain before moving forward with regular maintenance levels. Passing oclt is the way to know.

So my slam level is 24 ppm. I need to test water and then add amount of chlorine necessary to reach 24 ppm. Then I need to test a few times a day and keep adding the amount to keep it at 24 ppm?
Do I do an OCLT every night?
I keep my SWG off for a few days until process is done?
Once I pass OCLT the process is over?
That’s a bunch of chlorine I have to buy

The more often you do it, even every 2 hours, the faster it goes

Yes.

Clear pool, OCLT and CC<=.5

Yep

Yes, just a big dose to get to slam, then smaller doses throughout the day.

When I had the pool I sometimes passed my oclt on the third day. That was by opening early and being diligent with testing and raising back up to slam level. I would take the cover off on a Friday and hammer it over the weekend and be done on Monday or Tuesday.

I waited two days and repeated the OCLT last night. 11.5 last night and 10.5 ppm this morning so I’m leaving everything as it is. Don’t want to rock Apple cart…..I’ve been following the principles on here and so far so good.

Except you're not supposed to lose any FC overnight. You have to set your FC level after dark, measure it a bit later, then measure in the morning before sun hits the water. Any loss overnight means you have organics using up the FC.
