CYA

Curious about CYA ratio. It was 150+. Drained about a 3rd of the pool and it was 100. I did a reduced CYA test (half tap/half pool water). It was in the 30-50 “ideal” range of the test strip.
So does that mean I need to drain half the pool to get it in ideal range.

Welcome to the forum!
Wait until you get your test kit to determine your path forward. Add 5 ppm of liquid chlorine each day to the pool until you are able to properly test your pool water chemistry.
I suggest you read ABC's of Pool Water Chemistry.

Thanks. New pool up and running 2.5 weeks. Assume builder put way too much CYA in on start up and started me on tabs. Switching to TFP method.

Will try to find some patience

Looks like draining my pool based on the test strips was a waste of time.
Got the TF-100 in and CYA is 20 (strip still shows 100).

Guess that might explain why my chlorine is burning up so fast? (Down to 0 from 10 in 1 day / CC is .5)

Ain't it wonderful to have a real test result! Keep the test strips for the kids to use so they feel useful... But you know where the real numbers come from now.

I would recommend an OCLT To be sure that it's only the sun eating at the FC. To lose 10 with CYA of 20 sounds a bit much.You do need to be in the 40-50 CYA range per your local.
