CYA /Stabilizer

We have a 4,500 gal AGP that we just filled. Last evening I added half of a 128oz bottle of chlorine as per instructions on the bottle. And 6oz Clorox stabilizer per the instructions on the bag . Gradually added the stabilizer but it didn't dissolve. Ran the pump over night and today can see the stabilizer granuales laying on the bottom.

Tested chlorine result was 11. Tested CYA and the black dot did not disappear.

Should I have dissolved the stabilizer before putting it in? According to the app it advises to add another 17oz chlorine. Will that help with the CYA results?

So confused 😕

#1......go and stir up the granules off the liner. They are very acidic. Next time add the granules to a sock of knee high stock and drop in skimmer basket just not enough to block circulation circulate pool for 24 hours. Chlorine does not effect CYA results. How are you testing?

Thanks for the reply!
I'm using the TFPro test kit.
We don't have a skimmer basket guess I'm off to get one. Since I've already added the stabilizer should I add more once I get the skimmer? And should I add more chlorine per the app instructions? Guess it wouldn't hurt. We are not swimming yet water is way too cold.

Many thanks!

Adding 6 oz of granular stabilizer will increase CYA by less than 10 ppm. This won't even be noticeable on the CYA test. You'll need about 18 oz total to increase the level to ~30 ppm.

No need to put the CYA in a skimmer basket. Use a nylon knee-high and let it hand from a pole for about 20 mins, then squeeze/massage the nylon until the CYA dissolves. Keep brushing the stuff on the floor until it dissolves.
