Is there a certain recommended stabilizer that you use? How about some to stay away from? It's looking like the local pool store charges a lot more for this type of product than what something similar can be bought for online or maybe in a big box store.

This Clorox from Amazon comes out to ~$3.99/lb when buying 4lb: https://www.amazon.com/Clorox-Pool-...59&sprefix=puritech+stabilizer,aps,209&sr=8-6

This RX Clear brand comes out to ~$4.70/lb when buying 7lb, or down to ~$3.12/lb when buying 25lb: https://www.amazon.com/Rx-Clear-Con...refix=puritech+stabilizer,aps,209&sr=8-5&th=1

The Clorox branded stabilizer on Amazon is a pretty good price - even cheaper than Walmart when I last checked.
Many of us have used it and it works fine.

Some here have had good luck with the puritech brand as well.

Brand makes little difference. Check the label.......looking for around 95% pure, I seem to remember.

Lowes/ HD might be good resources. Don't buy just to save a few bucks. You should refill as needed but it won't be much as it depletes quite slowly
