How does CYA in fill water factor in to what’s actually available in the pool? Do you subtract from pool water CYA value? Does fill water CYA work with chlorine?

Did you get a CYA reading from testing your fill water? If so what did you use to test and what CYA reading did it give?
LaMotte ColorQ to test. Fill water tests 50. Pool 58. Fill water is from well. It’s always tested some even from pool store. A cpl years ago they tested 1. Last year I tested 38. My tap water tests positive for CYA as well.
I don’t think the LaMotte test for CYA is very accurate? It does great on everything else...but CYA really varies based on water temps. I’ve ordered a better CYA test that uses the look for the black dot method. Meanwhile I’m staying low on the scale so hopefully I don’t create a problem if it’s all about my testing. ?

This is why we recommend a high quality test kit like the Taylor kits. They are accurate!

Any test that shows CYA in fill water is false. Your experience supports what we already know: pool store testing is worthless and the ColorQ is not much better. Digital testing is not as accurate as we want to believe it is. That the device literally cannot run any of the tests to a precision of 0.01 ppm, yet displays results to this effect, strongly indicates that the manufacturer isn't interested in accuracy but only the illusion of accuracy.
