CYA and Chlorine non-existent...?

That is good to know about running the motor. Patience is definitely the key here. I’m starting day 3 of (official) SLAM. I’ll add results of my days and maybe you can tell me if I’m on track, but the water is not changing in clarity. The color is nice but I can barely see the second step of the ladder on the pool. I’m hoping that changes by the end of the week or I’ll know something’s wrong. ?

Added 192 oz if cheaper probably lower % bleach my in-laws for from dollar store. Won’t use much more of that.

This is how I intend to continue unless there’s any insight. I won’t keep cleaning the filter unless the pressure goes up. It seemed to catch an awful lot of bugs yesterday, which it had not been doing the days previous. ?‍♀️

Any chance you can fill out your signature as requested a couple days ago? Really helps us help you.

NOW I have it...not sure where I put all that information the first time. ?‍♀️
You had put in About You -- not Signature! Thank you for filling in the signature!
Circulation in above ground pools can be an issue. The more you brush, the quicker the SLAM will go.

Well, MAYBE I’ve found a part of the problem...we would spray clean the filter without looking much in between the folds, which we happened to do today and GROSS! There were clumps of what I assume to be algae or whatever was floating on top of the black swamp we started with. We replaced the filter today and will see what difference that makes.

When cleaning a cartridge filter get a hose nozzle to spray between the pleats. There are also items called 'filter flosser' that some folks use.

This pool is not mine so I am not on location all day but, maybe three or four times a day. Does that lapse inbeteeen my visits do damage (slow the process) as I cannot constantly keep the FC up at 16? Should I over pour chlorine knowing I won’t be back for half a day or so…?
Also, once I pour enough chlorine in per the calculator, should I wait half hour or so to retest before leaving to ensure I get up to FC of 16+?

3 or 4 times per day is sufficient. Do not raise FC above shock level.

I would not worry about testing after you add. As long as you know the volume pretty well, Poolmath is correct.

Ok, I may be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. I can see the third step on the ladder now and some semblance of the fourth! I held my FC level overnight and used less than 3 gallons chlorine yesterday. My girls swam for a couple hours yesterday and that seemed to drop the FC a few. I see it may take longer but there’s no other harm in anyone swimming now is there?
At any rate...we are getting there...!

Pretty sure my slam is done!!!! The pool needs to be vacuumed but the water is crystal clear! The filter is a slimy mess but we will get that cleaned really good later. I’ll check this morning to see if I pass the overnight chlorine loss test but think we are good to go. I’ll read threads about how long to keep the pump on and maintenance but first SLAM is a success. Thank you!
