This is my 3rd day in SLAM. Had 3ppm FC loss overnight. Added 3ppm again this morning. My current CYA level seems to be at 70. So I’m doing 24FC. I do not know my PH or TA as I forgot to test those before starting slam. My pool seems to be fuming gas and since I don’t know the PH or TA; I was planning on letting the kids go swimming today as pool is almost clear. Is it dangerous?

Welcome to TFP! Fumes? Do you mean a chlorine smell? Nothing actually visible is it? If it's just a smell, it's the combined chlorine (trash) being oxidized. If your last pH was somewhere in the 7.2-7.8 range, it's not a deal breaker and you can continue with the SLAM Process. Your water looks quite good, so hopefully it won't be much longer until you pass all 3 criteria.

If the pH is unknown because you haven't tested it in a while, you could be safe and allow the FC fall down to about 9-10 ppm to test the pH to ensure it's around 7.2. You'll lose some SLAM progress, but might be needed. You could test the TA at that time to ensure it's 50 or higher. If the TA is elevated (say 70 or more), it can be adjusted later if needed.

Out of range pH can be very uncomfortable to swim in. Primarily irritated eyes and skin. So you might get in it first to see if it bothers you before letting any others.

I actually saw visible fumes along one side of pool (where the return is) when I was posting but now they’re gone. I haven’t tested PH as we just filled the pool with new water after it got super out of control dirty over the winter and I got straight to SLAM and did not test the PH or TA before the SLAM. Where I circled and the arrow was the fumes I saw earlier but they’re now gone and I don’t see them anymore.

If it was fresh water and no acids added, the pH is not likely to be low. So not a big deal.
