News: The CDC issued a warning yesterday about an outbreak wherein swimming pools is one of the biggest sources of spreading this disease. Supposedly, this parasite is resistant to chlorine: https://www.washingtonpost.com/heal...t-can-live-days-pools/?utm_term=.2f9072c80f16

Cryptosporidium - Cryptosporidium is a microscopic parasite that causes the diarrheal disease cryptosporidiosis. Both the parasite and the disease are commonly known as “Crypto.” There are many species of Cryptosporidium that infect animals, some of which also infect humans.

According to the news report, the only prevention in so far as pool owners and operators is to ask that those with diarrhea not enter pools.

I came to TFP to see what our great experts were saying about this parasite and whether TFP methodology followers "have" or "don't have" extra insurance with our higher maintained FC levels. Conducted a search, but found no posts about it so far.

Crypto is reasonably difficult to contract, and those of us with TFP pools are reasonably safe from getting it. We are usually careful about who gets in our pools, and the likelihood of a given person you personally know having crypto is rather low.

My advice as a water microbiologist: don't worry about it. You're more likely to get it if you frequent public pools, and the likelihood is still rather low. You're more likely to catch a summer cold or a UTI than Cryptosporidium.
