Cracks on step corners

As I work on finding places where algae (black or otherwise) is growing for my newly acquired pool, I looked closer at the two cracks my pool has. I am not as concerned for the appearance as I am for any potential structural issues and beds for algae to grow.

What options do I have for plugging these up? All the black algae I have is on spots where the plaster is etched. I will post a pic to show but does that call for re-plastering? I am happy to take more if needed. :]

The tiles can be re-grouted. Prior to a re-plaster on the pool you may want to try an acid wash. That cleans up a lot and you can do the tiles grout at same time. Now if your pool plaster is in bad shape, soft spots, chipped plaster, etc. Than you may want to go directly to a re-plaster and again do the tiles at the same time.

I haven't earnestly done one yet. Tomorrow will be the first time I can do it before the sun comes out because I usually wake up when the sun comes out already but I am going to bet on no. Still have black algae caps (I think...) on my walls. The only green algae I found were on these cracks and behind my pool light the other day but the water itself has been really clean with 0 CCs for days now.

I feel like the plaster is not in the best shape since when im aggressively brushing the black algae spots I feel like I always manage to scrape a little piece of plaster off. Definitely feels a bit weak on the exposed parts if that makes sense. The plaster feels just fine on spots that don't have black algae spots though! I will take a look at related posts about re-plastering but if its just a partial one is that something one can do on their own? The spots are all very close to the water line- maybe about 18 inches from the water line at the lowest.

No doubt you have old worn plaster. But until you have gunite showing or leaks it is just cosmetic.

can be used for spot repairs.
