Pool has been chipped to the shell.

Multiple issues:
  • Need to fill the void of loose gunite that has been chipped out at the turn from the wall to the floor of the pool. Max depth of voids is 3".
    • Anyone have experience on how/if it's possible to layer new portland cement on to a pool shell?
      • If so, how do you do it?
      • Need to tie in steel or just chisel to good shell, acid wash, bond agent and pour over?
    • Can you skim coat the pool shell to give a smooth surface for the new plaster?

  • Need to fill pool crack that developed.
    • Other that shooting new gunite, is this a DIY effort?
      • I was thinking I would use tapcons to boardroom the gap and fill/vibrate from the bottom up after acid prep and putting a bond agent on the sides.
      • Other ideas?

You're doing a DIY chipout? You have pool building experience?
not exactly.

I did contract the plaster removal. They exposed the crack, but I’m contemplating doing most of the chip out/repair on the crack because most contractors who have come out either don’t offer sounds fixes, sub out the work, or decline. Most suggestions from these same folks compete demo/re-pour or put a new shell in the old one. I’ve seen too many blogs/stories with photos where this looks fixable with the right approach.
