My hot tube overflows into to pool and I noticed a crack yesterday below that overflow. Can someone recommend what I can get to repair this?

I see QuickRite has a Acrylic Crack Repair product, would that work ok? Also on the far left looks like someone already did some repair on the crack. Is that color the same as what the QuickRite would look like? Or is that some other product.

I does look like it has been repaired in that spot. I would get some different samples and see which one matches your color the best and go from there. It is going to be hard and take some extra care to fix it without making it look like a patch. I wonder if reworking the whole thing like a skim coat over the whole thing after you do the "patch" would be the best thing to do.

OUCH! I really have no clue but man that is ouchy! I would keep looking around.

Lets talk about repaint the rock.........we both know that will not last long there. The water flowing over it will wear it away.

Good luck and let us know what some others have to say! OH and ask "What will you be doing to fix it?"

So I have quotes from:
- Company A: 3500.00
- Company B: 4230.00 then changed to 2300.00 then "after looking further" 1700.00
- Company C: 680.00 Reference from relative that has done a lot of work on their pool. Was told this person also does a lot of work at local theme parks. And it can be done this week.

Out of curiosity... One of the company's told me that most likely they will have to knock out, replace, and rebuild the gunite and Rebar. Any thoughts on if that sounds legit for this?

In general.. Most likely can't tell 100% without seeing in person. That just sounded a little extreme...

Are you saying they gave you these quotes without seeing it in person?

You know the knock out and replace might be the way due to not really being able to "hide" the fix.....I am just talking from my gut. A person with some mad skills might be able to fix it without taking it apart.

This will be an interesting one to watch as you work your way through it.

I probably have never even posted in this forum but have lurked and learned a lot since buying our house with a pool 3 years ago. First time checking the forum in quite a while but figured I'd chime in with my 2 cents here. I am by no means an expert, but have a similar situation -- my hot tub spillover has a crack along the top similar to yours (pool stats ~16-18k gallon pebble tec pool). Anyhow, when we moved in I had the original pool builder chip out some of the pebble and do a repair. They charged around $800 if i recall correctly. It lasted about a year and then re-cracked. I spoke with others and got a handful of quotes and the gist of what I heard is that it is a "cold weld" issue that is likely unfixeable without breaking the whole thing down and re-building as noted in one of your quotes. I believe this is typically a $3-5k job depending on what is involved. I also heard of someone who did this and it didnt fix the issue.

Long story short, after evaluating my options I simply purchased "pool putty" epoxy and created my own semi-permanent fix. I did this last year and it held up pretty well with some slight re-cracking in the epoxy this year. I just touched it up again last weekend. It's far from perfect and from time to time it bothers the OCD side of me, but I fail to see how I get $5k of value out of the "permanent" fix or even $1k out of a different fix that will likely only last a year. You can buy a tube of black epoxy and another tube of white and mix them to get lighter/darker shades of gray. Not perfect, but it's a $50 option for you to consider.

Hope this helps.

Thanx for the update... I wonder if this was done that way originally... I'd like to think I didn't continually miss a crack that size... Honestly it's been killing my OCD side as well since I saw it... "How the heck did I not see that" I'm going to use the "I have 3 year old Twins" excuse... Just wonder how long I can use it...;)

Kylep, when your original pool builder repaired it, did he ever talk about the Rebar an the gunite? I forgot to mention this was before and after I was told I need to spend another 350 to have a professional leak assessment done (By a guy they'll recommend me to).. Not to say it's not a bad idea, but can't see rebar and concrete going bad in a area that never freezes... But I could be wrong..

They did not talk about the rebar at all. But to be honest, I never even asked and it was in my first month of ever dealing with a pool so I didn't know one thing that I was talking about (took me about a year to find this site and get the confidence to takeover pool duties)...

My crack was just below the spill line like yours and at night when the pump was off the water would leak down to the crack level and you could visibly see it reaching the other side of the waterfall. Because I never broke it down, I have no idea if there is a fracture in the middle that is leaking outside the pool and/or damaging rebar (but I do not have any significant water loss issues). When I noticed the crack I did pay the $350 to do the "professional" leak assessment. I wasn't thrilled with the return I received on that money.

Quick update and edit...;)

Had a guy come and work on the concrete today.. he chipped it out and said it was just the Faux rock that was cracked... The foundation and everything was fine.. He chipped out most of the spillway and replaced the concrete.. Pictures are attached below... I watched a bit, but was working from home. So I didn't see the whole thing. I'm thinking he chipped all the way down to where the crack was and rebuilt from there... At least from what it looked like from a distance. By the time I got there he had everything chipped out and in a bucket.. And had the inside (the hot tub) done..

Will you color it? I hope it lasts for a good, long time!

yeah - wife and I went back and forth, and we ended up having him fix all the minor cracks and repaint all our rock... Our boys are 3 now and we thought we're a year or 2 out from sports and other activities... We need it done, and figured if we wait another year (which everything seems to take a year in our house) we won't have the spare $$..

I can post pix of everything when he's done...

Repainted and will post pix asap..

I have some overspray paint left in the water.. We emptied about half to show all the faux rock, then refilled. I don't think it's bad, just foggy on the deep end.. Any thoughts on how to get it out? I read that the Pool Perfect will help clean it up.. I can run by the pool store and get some over lunch or on my ride home from work..

LOL - that was the one I was reading earlier...

I have a few bottles of the Pool Perfect + Phos Free in the garage... I usually put 5 - 6 cap fulls / week in the skimmer... I think I'll double it when I get home today and see how that goes... I plan on cleaning the filter either tomorrow night or Thursday.. Pumps been running since yesterday afternoon...
