Got a massive amount of cotton wood fluff in my pool this spring. My water went from sparkling to cloudy in 2 days that I was away on a fishing trip. PH is 7.4 and chlorine was low so added liquid chlorine and now reading very good. I took the head off my sand filter and took out at least 8 big hand fulls of fluff material. I added more sand to replace and back washed and pool has gotten clearer over night but still has a long way to go. Do you think I have to replace all my sand in the filter???? I replaced the sand last September...

How do you test and how do you chlorinate normally?
Environmental debris, like cottonwood seeds, would not necessarily be a cause of algae.

Lack of FC is what you need to be dealing with; Overnight Chlorine Loss Test to confirm algae, SLAM Process to eliminate it.

I test with a Taylor kit and chlorinate with liquid chlorine. I slammed last night 6 jugs of chlorine and like I said previously I took gobs of flush out of my sand filter...

Backwash when 20-25% higher PSI than "clean."
Sand filters are durable and pretty fool-proof as long as you don't foul them up with pool store potions.
