Corrosion?

I had 3 brass gate valves in my pool plumbing when I bought the house, they were all seized up and I couldn’t adjust any of them. I replaced them with brass ball valves. About 2 months later a hole corroded through the side of one of the valves. The hole opened up to about a 1/4inch and had a greenish color. I replaced them again with pvc ball valves and haven’t noticed an issue in over a year. I currently added a tablet Chlorinator and a check valve before it for the de filter. A few days ago, I heard a bunch of metal noise at the check valve. Today the noise is gone, but now I can smell a strong chlorine smell when I purged air out of my filter. Could my check valve be bad? Do I have an issue with corrosion? What would cause this? Thanks!
