I bought a used intex salt water system. Looks like its never been used.
What do I nees to know about converting to saltwater?
Do I need anything special to test? Obviously I need salt.
How do I do this and so it right?

Order up the Taylor K-1766 Salt test kit and SWG. Use liquid chlorine to bring your pool up to desired FC levels first, and once you have nstalled SWG (but don't turn it on yet) add as much ppm of salt as the SWG device manual tells you to add.

You can use PoolMath to help determine how many bags that will be. Most seem to run in the 2000-3000ppm range.

Add salt to pool and brush to mix in and let it mix and dissolve for the next day or two. Only then will you turn it on, and it should maintain your FC level. It works too slowly to bring your FC up from zero, hence why we tell you to use liquid chlorine at first.

Make sense?

Got it. How often do I test salt? And is there something I can get locally to test it until I can get the other ordered and in

Once you have your salt level where you want it, you probably only need to test it a few times per year. I personally never trust my SWG to be accurate and only make changes to my salt level after testing my water independent of the device.

I once tried guess-strips and found them wrong compared to my salt test kit. A drop kit will always be more accurate.

You can often find it locally, as well as via TFTestkits.net or Amazon.

I need 125 lbs to start up. Can I get away with 120 lbs. Bags are 40 lbs and I really don't have any where to store all the extra right now. Also how often do you usually need to add salt and would I need to test salt level right away? And how often do you test salt?
