Considering SWG

Discount salt pool.com is very much still in business as far as I know - perhaps they have moved their offices & failed to update their website. If you’re concerned you can call them to confirm.

Or they moved into that location after the picture was taken.

In any event, if they are the genuine storefront for CircuPool products how objective are the ratings? I was surprised at the relatively low rating for the IC60, and of course the RJ-60 and the other CircuPool products have the best ratings.

Several members have not seen the advertised production. But at worst they produce as well as the rest of the pack, at $300(?) less.

I have an RJ60. It is a beast. 30K pool and I run 5%-20% normal operation (solar cover). When I take the cover off to swim, I turn it up to 50% and back when I cover it. Maintains 8-10FC with ease. I would say it is at least 80% of rated capacity, if not more.

I have an RJ45+ and it produces as advertised.

They are still in business. My neighbor spoke to them on the phone earlier in the week.

To be clear - the outputs shown for other brands on that chart are not manipulated, they are the manufacturer’s listed outputs.
The prices obviously can vary depending upon where/when you buy.

I wasn't questioning the output numbers as much as their "value score" (even though many have reported the CircuPool output being somewhat overstated.) To rate the RJ-60+ a 98 and the IC-60 a 70.8 because of a clear body, lack of plug on the IC-60, and a marketing type warranty (look at the prorating scale) on the RJ-60 is somewhat out of line. I do understand the appeal of the warranty to the DIY crowd and I am sure the RJ-60+ is a fine system but I really doubt it is head and shoulders above the IC-60.

I believe such comparisons are irrelevant and one needs to consider their entire system and choose a SWG based on what works best for them.

How would you expect them to rate the competition ? Fairly ? :laughblue:

They are as shady of a company as can be. They are a reseller of generic equipment through a shell company that appears independent. They over state their products abilities to look like they stand ahead of the pack and their warranty sounds much better than it is. I *wish* I could hate them. But there are oodles of real world TFP members thrilled with the performance of the company's products across all lines.

On year 4 when they (quickly I might add) give somebody $300 off a new cell, it beats the heck out of the $0 any other brand would give you. So while not as great as '7year warranty' sounded in the first place, it's still way better than nothing. .

That all said, I went Pentair for pool #2. Half because of the familiarity from using / working on it for 8.5 years and half because of the bundle warranty with the pump and filter. (Which didn't work out )

I am sure you posted about that experience - can you provide a link or explain?

My build got delayed over a year and the equipment warranty was from date of purchase, not date of install. The primary warranty was expired before any of it was fired up. Then I lost the extended bundle because I purchased it all myself from different suppliers in order to get it during the shortages but for the warranty upgrade it all needs to be on the same receipt. I had a guy willing to push it through anyway when it was this years equipment but he changed his mind when it was 'last years equipment'.

Their little list is indeed biased towards selling their products of course, however it is currently the most comprehensive comparison list available that contains life spans, outputs, warranties, & somewhat accurate prices for most all the major brands which is the reason I usually post it for those shopping. It’s a good resource.
Never even looked at the “value score” nor would I expect anyone to make their decision based on that made up marketing score.
It can take hours/days to find all those other very important numbers on the individual manufacturer websites. They like to bury that info.
The only thing it’s missing is the other “budget brands” like pureline & calimar which are generally a bit cheaper than the circupool universal budget line but also have shorter hour ratings & warranties which are reflected in their prices.

Bummer.

That TradeGrade bundled warranty looked promising so I went to a local brick and mortar to price a system out. It was more than 10 grand above what I could buy the EC equipment for online, and that didn't count labor. I am more inclined to buy online and hire someone to help install so that I get the full EC warranty if I go with Pentair.

IIRC the EC warranty was 1 year and couldn't be upgraded to the bundle warranty.
