We had the stamped concrete pool deck resealed a couple months ago. Where the sealant went over the mastic of the pool expansion joint the sealant did not cure properly and left a tacky gummy mess.

We finally got the decking guy back to take a look at it and he says he’s never seen this happen before. I’m just wondering if anyone else has had something similar happen and knows what might cause it.

The mastic is Sikaflex polyurethane. I don’t know what sealant they used.

Sealant is WR Meadows CS309. Solvent based.

He talked to the guys at his shop and now says the sealant and mastic were chemically reacting with assistance from the high heat we’ve had. Hes scraping the sealant gum off with xylene and a wire brush and it seems to be working ok.
