I have not posted in a while. No News is good news... Right.
Water temp is 78 deg... I gat this thing whipped into shape just in time!!!
The water continues to be perfectly clear and all of the chemistry is staying in perfect balance. We are adding 24 oz of 8.25% daily to hold FC right around 6. The PH seems to be creeping up slowly so this pool will probaly need a small shot of acid weekly.
Today's Test results
FC - 5.5
CC - 0
TA - 70
CH - 250
PH - 7.8
Now that the water is so clear, I can see that I need to do some spot brushing with the wire brush to do to remove the brown debis that is clung to the walls & floor in areas. I know brushing is the answer because the area around my drain looks great from the extra brushing that area received from always brushing toward the drain.
We did decide to go ahead a add Borates to the pool based on resarch and feedback from others that have done so. We had company fron NC last weekend (previous pool owners) & they commented on how soft & odar free our water is.
My lessons learned from this process.
1. When I drained my pool (80%) I wish I had pressure washed the visible walls & floor to remove the gritty buildup. Wire brushing at that time would have been a big help also.
2. I should have removed and cleaned the light fixture when the pool was drained.
3. I should have added enough bleach at the low water level to beging killing the algae in the water at that point
4. I should have purchased & started using the wire algae brush much sooner. I noticed immediate progress improvement when I switched from the nylon brush to the wire.
5. I should have purchased the Zodiac auto pool cleaner sooner. This was a big difference maker in getting the debris out.
6. I replaced my standard nylon pool brush with a nylon / wire blend. I think for my pool, right now, I need the added aggressiveness.
7. I should have ordered a larger quantity of the chlorine testing reagents. Even with the XL kit I ran out before the SLAM was complete.
8. I am so glad that I followed ALL of the advice I received here.
9. This process is actually very simple. Test to know what you have. Use the charts to determine where you need to be. Use Pool Math to know how to get there.
We are looking forward to a Trouble Free summer of swimming. Thank you to all who tolerated me during this & I hope that the information in this thread will help others through similar experiences.
