Coming to the other side

I finally got a full set of tests run on the new pool.

FC - 6

CC - 0

TA - 90

pH - usually 7.8 or above

CH - 550

CYA - 50 (after addition of 8 lbs)

I know CYA could be a little higher, but I'm moving slowly, as I've never dealt with anything near this size before and definitely don't want to have to drain it. That's why I'm keeping my FC at 12% of CYA too, just to be safe. I've always preferred to run a little high, and there is sometimes a little algae where the waterfall rocks meet the water, right at the water line.

I was concerned about the CH being high and thought that might be responsible for the little calcium spots I posted about in another thread. But after further reading, I learned water chemistry doesn't have anything to do with that, so unless I start to see scaling, I'm not going to worry about it any further. It seems having too little would be detrimental to my heater.

So my biggest problem now is keeping the pH down. I'm adding MA like a madman, but the lowest I've gotten it is 7.5, and that only for a short time. I just measured TA for the first time at 90, so I don't know what I started with. I'd like to get to 50.

I'm running the IC40 at 100% for 6 hours/day. That's my total pump time as well, one hour at 6 am just to clear away the junk that blew in overnight, and then 4 pm to 9 pm because we like it running in the evenings while we're using it. I mostly keep the fountain and waterfall off to help with the rising pH.

Looking good. Yes, manage that pH to prevent scale and you're good to go. Lowering TA will definitely help with managing pH. Keep CSI between -0.3 and 0 and the pool and SWG cell will be good. Bout time you updated that Sig! :)

Yeah, I know. 99% of my time on this forum is done on my phone, and you can't update it through the mobile site. I finally wrested my laptop away from my Minecraft addicted son long enough to get it changed.

Oh yeah, Minecraft is still HUGE! Microsoft purchased it from Mojang a couple of years ago for $2.5 billion with a "B". Can you imagine? A little 8-bit looking game some dude wrote at home, selling for $2.5B?

I picked up a couple of cheapie Better Homes and Garden brand light kits from Wal Mart and installed them today. The cheap cell phone camera doesn't do it justice. I'm loving it!

I got two light sets (4 pathway, 2 spots and a 35 volt transformer) for $57/ea. Added a couple more spots, and I'm in for under $150!

The quality was surprisingly good. All aluminum construction. We'll see how they hold up. But for $150, if I had to replace the entire setup every couple of years I wouldn't complain.

The regular price was $79 for each set. I think the ones I got were mismarked. I went to a different Wal Mart to get a couple more lights, and they still had them for $79. But that's still not bad at all.
