Combined chlorine

Excellent. Could pseudomonas aeruginosa still be present if that’s the case?
Are you having issues with that? Aka hot tub rash?
If so its time to purge, drain, & refill even if cc’s aren’t elevated.
Try cleaning your test cylinder with alcohol and see if you’re still showing persistent cc’s to rule out interference.
While cc’s of 0.5 or less are acceptable & to be somewhat expected in a spa (especially if you test right after use) if they become elevated above that & a couple of slam fc level rounds don’t lower cc’s back to acceptable ranges its time to start over.
Cc’s are simply 1 indicator of the health of the water.

I might be. I really don’t know. Doctor thinks it is.

The water balance is very good and the CC of 0.5ppm is consistent. But I have been having skin issues for months now. Enough to make me want to avoid the spa.

Small sometimes red bumps on the skin that you can barely see and are in different places. I’ve noticed this time around it seems to be mainly the n the back, back of thigh and back of calves where the jets are. Terribly itchy and constant.

It all started back in about April when my pool store changed dichlor brands and I got in the tub when it was FC >20ppm. I’ve had breaks for up to 2 months of getting in and still I have trouble. For the 6 months prior to that I was in it every day without an issue.

I think I’m going to purge, drain and refill regardless.

Are you solely using dichlor?
We recommend switching to liquid chlorine once cya reaches 30/40ppm and always follow the
FC/CYA Levels never allowing fc to fall below minimum.
We recommend doing a purge drain and refill every 3-6 months depending upon use anyway so sounds like its time.

One note about dichlor- some versions are not 99%.
PoolMath assumes 99% for the calculations.
Just something to watch for. Many don’t list whats in the % so perhaps thats where part of the issue lies with irritation.
Hopefully a purge & fresh start will clear the issue up!

G’day folks. Hope you’re all well.

I’m still having skin issues with my spa use. I’ve purged and cleaned and refilled and I’m still having issues. It's so very frustrating. I had no issues until April of this year.

CH 125
FC 3.5
CC 0.5
pH 7.6
TA 40
CY 20

Building up my CY after the refill. Added chlorine and baking soda this morning to get FC up to 5ppm and TA to 50ppm.

Thinking of moving from chlorine to bromine. I think I may have developed a chlorine reaction or allergy. My wife is a nurse and is of the same thought. I can’t think what else it could be.

Kind regards,

Steve
