Do not wait for the CYA to fully dissolve to start the SLAM. Do it now.

Squeeze the sock once the rain stops. It will dissolve pretty quickly

Do your best. Life happens. No one else to add a touch of LC during the day? Even without testing?
 
You test it and dose the pool when you can it might take a little longer, but since you don't have a swamp it shouldn't be too bad. If you can, test and dose before work, right after work, after dinner, and before bedtime. If the chlorine is holding well you might not need to dose every time. You may get to the OCLT sooner than you think!
 
Best I can do on my 12s is before and after work (which would be before 515 am and about 8 pm)

So if I’m understanding the thread right
I’m not officially SLAMd until I can hold my FC level at 12? Don’t lose more than 1 through night? No CC?
Then SLAM is complete ?

also when I put this new eyeball device on and point it up to aerate how long and I doing this for? Will this affect the SLAM?

So tomorrow I should be testing every 2 hours and adding liquid chlorine in attempts to reach a level of 12? Once I reach it keep adding until I maintain that level without a loss?

i can try to convince my husband to just pour some in when he gets home from work (6pm ish) but his only interest in the pool is bulldozing it in.

You aree done wiht the SLAM Process when all three of these are true:

Pool is clear (you have passed this one)
CC .5 or lower (you have passed this one)
Pass Overnight Chlorine Loss Test (This doesnt have to be 12 hours. Test at 9 tonight and 7 in the morning is fine

The areation to adjust pH will not affect the SLAM Process
 
Test prior to slam
FC 2
CC .5 (although it was a more significant shade of pink than earlier tests today it still went away in 1 drop)

adding 201 ounces of 10% liquid chlorine

will give you the results in 2 hours


also how long do I leave the eyeball in the aerating type position

Yup =) Overnight Chlorine Loss Test (means that the last FC test taken after dark matches within 1 of the first morning FC)

No time limit =) It doesn't hurt anything there

Tell your DH (darling husband), it WILL be worth it, THIS is not a continued process, if proper ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry is maintained, then easy peasy! :goodjob:

I may have read wrong, but are you in the middle of a SLAM, and your FC target is 12? If so, you should add enough chlorine to get back to 12 before calling it a night.

this is from an earlier post in thread:

The bad news is, once you put the CYA in we automatically assume that it's there and working, so your shock level goes up to 12. While we would like to see it stay at shock as much as possible, the 30 minute testing changes to a two hour cycle during a SLAM. So, I'm going to guess you will get 2 cycles in before the sun sets. Once it sets make sure you add what will bring you to 12. wait somewhere between 30-60 minutes and retest to get a good starting point. If it's not exactly 12, don't add more - just start from where you are. Please be up before the sun is up to test again. while it would be best for the pump to run all night, some have been know to shut it off, but you must start it again 30-60 minutes before you take your morning test sample.


i took this to leave if where it’s at tonight and start in the am. Perhaps I interpreted that wrong ......
 
I hate to disagree with someone who has more experience for sure than I do, but it just doesn’t make sense to me, if you know you are below your target, to leave it that way overnight. Just more time for algae to reproduce.

If this was my pool, I would bring it back up to 12 before hitting the sack, and then test again in the morning.

She has been at shock level all day (10 with no CYA), and has just added the CYA which brings the new shock level to 12. The reading tonight is the start of an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test, hopefully the only one she needs. If it's not exactly shock level for the new CYA, in this case 12 it's not the end of the world.

Here is hoping for a reading of 10 in the morning!

CC .5-1 (1 drop made it almost clear, was debating adding a second, second drop made it entirely clear)

Once I can see I will add 100 ounces of 10% and keep at it every few hours today

hopefully I can hit my mark tomorrow morning before work because I might lose ground with my work schedule

I would upload the cc test but it’s giving me an error code about exceeding my quota

Also going to get my spouse to change the cartridge later today to a brand new one since that’s an old cartridge (but clean) I was using to just get it up and running
