CMP PowerClean TAB in-line chlorinator overflowing when pump is on

When I turn off the pump and open the lid the water drains, but when the lid is closed and the pump is on, it overflows and leaks regardless of the flow level inside the chlorinator. This is a new problem for me. Equipment is only 1 year old.

I know first step is to check / replace the o-ring. I also know everyone recommends an SWG but a solution to my problem that doesn’t involve major equipment changes / replacements would be appreciated!

Im a newbie so if someone could explain the inflow and outflow of water in the chlorinator I think that would help. Besides the o-ring being a potential problem, it seems like the outflow of water is the main problem.

Thanks,
Jasmine

If the lid gasket doesn't work, you need a new chlorinator.

Because the bottom valve is shot too. When the pump is off, acid sludge from the tablets eats away at the chlorinator. It needs to be replaced at times, specific to everyone's usage parameters. Once the on/off valve is shot, the same acid sludge oozes into the plumbing. There is probably a sacrificial check valve, but it's only a matter of time there too and the equipment is next.

An equal replacement should swap right out with the unions. Then put any future tabs in a floater in the pool.

I wouldn't spend money to replace something I wasn't going to use, so I'd just cut it out and patch the plumbing.
