I have been experienceing cloudy water on and off the past 6 days. The pool was covered and pump shut off for 3 days due to medical emergency. Upone opening, the water ws cloudy. Chlorine was almost non existent. I added 2 gallons of 10% liquid chlorine and the water cleared up and numbers looked better:
FC 3.78
TC 4.09
pH 7.5
Alk 82
CH 260
CYA 41
The pump continued to run and the DE filter ws backwashed and recharged. Now two days later, the water is cloudy again. We added 3 gallons of liquid chlorine last night. Water is still cloudy. Today's numbers:
FC 5.38
FC 5.66
pH 7.7
alk 101
CH 260
CYA 41

I am looking for suggestions. Please help.

It is best to do the SLAM Process. My assumption is that the cover was closed for 3 days and algae grew in the pool and you have not fully eradicated it. It may be on the cover and if you are closing your cover nightly it is being reintroduced to the pool.
With a CYA of 40 you will need to up the FC level to 16ppm and maintain that for several days.
Also during a SLAM, do not put the cover on and try to clean it with household bleach.

Please put your location on your profile.

Thank you for your reply. The cover has not been on since we were gone for the medical issue. I have added location, but don't know if it shows up on existing thread. Oblong, Illinois.
Thanks for update. I would start the SLAM process. Use liquid chlorine to increase the FC. Since the cover was off, still clean it to ensure nothing is on it.
Leave the cover off for the SLAM. It may go quickly since this cloudiness is sporadic.
