Cloudy water without evidence of algae

During the summer I have a regular problem with cloudy water. I keep my chemistry within the levels recommended by TFP (chlorine 5.0, CC 0.0, CYA 70, TA 79, ph 7.6) I regularly check Combined Chlorine and OCLT, neither of which show evidence of algae. I have several Crape Myrtle trees near the pool and I suspect that the cloudiness is from fine sediment produced by the trees and other landscaping around the pool. If I leave the pump off the water is clear but the sediment settles on the bottom until disturbed. I have read that TFP does not recommend the use of clarifier or floc and the sediment is so fine that the sand filter cannot clear the water. Are there any good options for keeping the water clear?

Have you tried Add DE to a Sand Filter

The occasional use of a quality clarifier is acceptable if you are absolutely sure the cloudy water is not chemically related. SeaKlear Chitosan is a quality product to use. Be sure to backwash your filter after vacuuming up any remnants. Vacuum to waste as much as possible.

My first question would be, are you using a FAS/DPD test to conduct the OCLT? That would require a TF-100 or Taylor K-2006 level kit.

Your description really sounds like the beginning of an algae bloom as that is how it acts (the dead algae sinks to the bottom).

So, if you are using a FAS/DPD test and have no loss overnight then you can add DE to your sand filter to make is filter finer particles.

Instead of actual DE, I use Cellulose Fiber DE replacement powder.

This is an example, but 3 pounds is a lot. you can find smaller packages.
