Hi all, i came back from a trip last night, the pump didn't sound healthy (gargleing sound), checked & saw the pump has too much air in it. Skimmer basket was overflow with leaves up to surface level, cleaned it and robotic skimmer. Last night test results: FC 8.5; CC 0; CYA 40, Calc Hardness 200; Alkalinity 70 (test colour: a tint of red) and 80 (red); Salinity 3200. I ran a robotic cleaner last night. This morning test result: FC& CC remained the same result but water is cloudy. Wondering why the water is cloudy,...existence of algae? Do I need to do SLAM? Thanks

Thank you PoolStored, yes I did overnight clorine tests. Free Chlorine and Combined Chlorine test results were the same: 8.5 and 0 respectively. Photos of water attached. I am also wondering why ph has to be lowered to (7.2-7.4) for SLAM process. My pool ph has always been 8.0 since the beginning (last year).

It may be entirely possible that you had a fair amount of dirt get into the pool, and with the pump not working properly, the water didn't get filtered. Do you have sources of dirt near/around the pool? Was it windy?

As to pH, If one is going to SLAM at high levels using a hypochlorite source of chlorine (bleach, chlorinating liquid, Cal-Hypo, lithium hypochlorite), then one should lower the pH first before doing so. Adding chlorine raises the pH. Though it will come back down when the FC level drops, you don't want the pH to get too high because it can precipitate metals that can cause staining, can cause cloudiness from over-saturation of calcium carbonate, and at much higher pH the active chlorine level goes down significantly. Lower pH will reduce the amount of chlorine you use during the SLAM.

You might wait a few days and run the pump 24/7 and see if it clears up. You might also add POOL DE to your sand filter to aid in filtering. I'd take one picture a day from the same vantage point and compare over the next couple days. If you don't see improvement, then I'd SLAM.

Thank you so much, your advise might've saved from doing unnecessary SLAM! Yes it has been a windy day in the last 4 days. 4 days ago a friend came and clear leaves from the skimmer basket but last night it was overflow with debris and dirt. The water became murky around the skimmer as I removed the leaves and debris. Also 2 weeks ago the water was clear ( attached). I will run the pump and watch as you said.
